We follow breed specific patterns, of course with modifications based on owner preference.
Every bath is thorough, using separate shampoo and conditioner, or scent free products for our sensitive pups.
When we trim nails, we also file sharp edges. And for our hairier pups, we trim pad hair. We call it a full pawdicure!
Grooming includes a blow out, brushing, all over fine-tooth combing, then mist & fluff to ensure a clean, healthy coat, free of tangles and matts.
We are careful to not get water in ear canal, which can cause ear infections.
If a dog comes in that needs a de-shed, but it does not come in regularly, it is possible all undercoat might not be able to be removed. We can only fully remove an undercoat from a well maintaned pup. A heavily impacted undercoat might need multiple visits to get back on track.
We do not perform excessive de-matting. It is painful, causes severe skin irritation, and is stressful for your pup. Severe matting acts like a tight band, causing skin damage and hiding infections, sores, and even parasites. Shaving is chosen over painful de-matting to prioritize the dog’s comfort over vanity.
Groomers are pretty amazing, but we are not miracle workers. We can only work with what we are given. A dog who is not maintained well at home, or is not tolerant of the grooming process, will not have a perfect grooming outcome.
